Description

"Tetris Plus" is a puzzle video game originally developed by Natsume and published by Jaleco for arcades in 1996, before being ported to various home consoles including the Sega Saturn. The game is a variant of the immensely popular "Tetris," which was created by Russian game designer Alexey Pajitnov in 1984. "Tetris Plus" distinguishes itself from the original with the addition of a new puzzle mode, adding a unique twist to the classic Tetris gameplay. In this mode, players must not only clear lines with falling tetromino pieces, but also help a professor character navigate through a series of platforms within the puzzle to reach the bottom of the screen, making the game more dynamic and strategy-oriented.

The Sega Saturn version of "Tetris Plus" was well-received for its colorful graphics and engaging gameplay, particularly the innovative puzzle mode which introduced a co-op feature allowing two players to work together. This added a layer of cooperative strategy as players had to manage both the falling blocks and the movement of the professor to avoid trapping him or cutting off paths to the bottom of the grid. The game also retained a classic mode for traditional Tetris gameplay, ensuring that it stayed true to the original's addictive nature while offering something new to the Tetris series. The inclusion of adjustable difficulty levels and the ability to save progress were additional features that made this adaptation a notable entry in the history of Tetris games.
