Release Date: 1996
"Strikers 1945" is a vertically scrolling shoot 'em up video game developed by Psikyo and originally released in 1995 for arcade platforms. Subsequently, the game was ported to several home consoles, including the Sega Saturn. Set near the end of World War II, "Strikers 1945" offers an alternate history where players take control of fighter planes repurposing their war capabilities to battle an array of futuristic enemies and massive bosses. The game is renowned for its fast-paced gameplay and the diversity of its aircraft, each equipped with unique primary attacks and powerful "bomb" abilities which clear the screen of enemies and projectiles.
Each aircraft in "Strikers 1945" represents a historic WWII fighter plane, such as the P-38 Lightning and the Spitfire, but with enhanced offensive and defensive capacities to cope with the fantastical enemy forces. Players can choose from one of six different planes, and the game can be played either solo or with a second player in a cooperative mode. The transition to the Sega Saturn allowed for a more faithful home arcade experience with enhanced graphics and control response similar to the arcade. "Strikers 1945" incorporates a simple power-up system and leverages a scoring system that incentivizes risky gameplay and high levels of skill, adding depth and replay value for enthusiasts of the shooter genre.
