Description

"Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - Ewok Adventure" was an unreleased video game for the Atari 2600 console, developed and intended for release by Parker Brothers in 1983. The game was designed around the popular "Star Wars" franchise, specifically focusing on the events in the third installment of the original trilogy, "Return of the Jedi". In an interesting twist from other "Star Wars" games of the era, players would have controlled an Ewok as they maneuvered a hang glider over the forest moon of Endor. The primary goal of the game was to defend Endor by sabotaging the Imperial forces. This involved avoiding obstacles and enemies while trying to cause the Empire's vehicles to crash.

Despite completion, "Ewok Adventure" was never commercially released after it performed poorly during play testing, as some players found the controls confusing and the gameplay objectives unclear. This disappointment led to its cancellation, making it a fascinating piece of "Star Wars" videogame history as well as a notable example of a shelved video game project. The game would have involved a combination of flight simulation and strategy, with players needing to tactically use the landscape and other elements to defeat the Empire. Only a few prototypes of the game exist, which have become highly sought after by collectors and gaming historians, and the game itself is an interesting case of early interactive storytelling and game design in the burgeoning days of home gaming consoles.
