Description

"Short Order / Eggsplode!" is a unique video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) that combines two distinct gameplay experiences in one cartridge: "Short Order", a memory-based puzzle game, and "Eggsplode", a fast-paced action game. Both games were designed to take advantage of the NES Power Pad accessory, providing a physically interactive experience uncommon in the typical NES library. In "Short Order," players stack ingredients to match orders by hopping on corresponding buttons on the Power Pad, testing both memory and physical agility. Switching over to "Eggsplode," the gameplay shifts to defusing bombs laid by a mischievous fox in a chicken coop by stepping on the right buttons before time runs out, adding a frantic and engaging challenge.

Released during the late 1980s, "Short Order / Eggsplode!" stands out for leveraging the capabilities of the Power Pad, which was more commonly used for fitness and dance games like "World Class Track Meet." While not as renowned as some of the more iconic NES titles, it offered an innovative and enjoyable experience, particularly for players looking for more active video gameplay. The game’s design encouraged multiplayer interaction, making it a fun party or family game. Despite its relatively lower visibility in the vast NES catalog, "Short Order / Eggsplode!" holds a special place as a novel and playful title that pushed the boundaries on how video game interfaces could be used for diverse gaming experiences.
