Release Date: 1991
"Psychic World" is an action platformer game initially released for the Sega Game Gear in 1991. In the game, players step into the shoes of Lucia, a young researcher working in a laboratory specializing in psychic phenomena. The story kickstarts with a devastating explosion at the lab caused by one of the experiments gone awry, which results in the disappearance of Lucia's sister, Cecile. With her sister believed to be kidnapped by mysterious creatures, Lucia sets off on a daring rescue mission. Equipped with a psychic headband that enhances her own latent psychic abilities, Lucia navigates through various hostile environments. The game spans several stages, each filled with diverse enemies, obstacles, and bosses, challenging the player's reflexes and strategic use of psychic powers.
Over the course of the game, Lucia can collect power-ups to boost her abilities, which include telekinesis, freezing, and a psychic shield, among others. The gameplay is a mix of fast-paced action and puzzle-solving, as players must figure out the best ways to use Lucia's powers to overcome specific challenges. "Psychic World" is notable for its early use of a female protagonist and the integration of psychic abilities into gameplay, a relatively fresh concept at the time. Originally developed by Sanritsu and published by Sega, the game also had versions released on the MSX and the Master System, with each version bearing slight differences in level design and graphics, tailored to the capabilities of the respective platforms. Its unique blend of science fiction elements with platforming action made "Psychic World" a memorable entry in the Game Gear's library, retaining a cult following among classic game enthusiasts.
