Release Date: 1992
"Paperboy 2" is a sequel to the original "Paperboy" game, designed for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) as well as several other platforms. Released by Tengen in 1991, this game continues the unique premise of its predecessor, where players assume the role of a paperboy (or, for the first time in the series, a papergirl) tasked with delivering newspapers along a suburban street. The objective is to deliver papers to subscribers while vandalizing the homes of non-subscribers and avoiding numerous obstacles. The game unfolds over a week, starting on Monday and ending on Sunday, with each day bringing more challenging obstacles and increasingly complex routes.
Gameplay in "Paperboy 2" is characterized by its side-scrolling action where players navigate their bike from a third-person perspective. The player must throw newspapers aiming for the mailboxes and front doors of subscribers while trying to manage an array of obstacles ranging from cars, pedestrians, remote control cars, and even the Grim Reaper himself. Unlike its predecessor, "Paperboy 2" introduces the ability to throw papers to both the left and the right which added a new layer of challenge and strategy to the game. The end of each route culminates in a training course where players can earn extra points by hitting targets and jumping ramps. "Paperboy 2" maintains the quirky humor and challenging gameplay that made the original a beloved classic, adding twists that brought new life to the familiar formula.
