Description

"McDonaldland," also known as "M.C. Kids" in the United States, is a platform video game developed by Visual Concepts and published by Virgin Games for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1992. The game is set in the whimsical world of McDonaldland, the fantasy-themed advertising landscape created for McDonald's restaurant commercials. Players take on the roles of Mick and Mack, two children who embark on a quest to retrieve Ronald McDonald's magical bag, which has been stolen by the Hamburglar. As players traverse through various levels—from magical forests to snowy mountains—they collect cards that allow them to progress and eventually confront the Hamburglar to recover the bag.

Gameplay in "McDonaldland" involves typical platforming elements such as jumping, avoiding enemies, and solving puzzles. Unique to this game is the use of spinning blocks and zippers that can transport players to different areas or reveal hidden items. The game features seven worlds, each culminating in a boss fight, and includes elements familiar to fans of McDonald's, such as Ronald McDonald himself and other characters from the McDonaldland commercials like Grimace and Birdie. The game was noteworthy for its colorful graphics and cheerful music, which captured the fun and family-friendly vibe of the McDonald's brand. While initially designed as a promotional tool to appeal to children, "McDonaldland" gained recognition for its solid platforming mechanics and engaging level design, making it a memorable entry in the NES library.
