Description

"Kingdom: The Far Reaches" is an immersive adventure game developed originally for the Panasonic 3DO console, among other platforms. In the game, players step into the mystical boots of a young apprentice wizard named Lathan Kandor, who is tasked with recovering the scattered pieces of the ancient "Hand of Mobus" to ultimately defeat the evil sorcerer, Torlok. As players navigate through a series of enchanted realms, they interact with various characters, solve puzzles, and face numerous challenges. The gameplay predominantly revolves around point-and-click mechanics, which were quite popular in the genre during the early 90s. The game's narrative unfolds through animated sequences, offering a rich storytelling experience that combines magic, mystery, and a quest ripe with peril.

Originally released in 1995, "Kingdom: The Far Reaches" is a continuation and reimagining of the earlier game "Thayer's Quest," which had been developed for the unique Halcyon laserdisc system by RDI Video Systems. By harnessing the technological capabilities of the 3DO, the developers at Interplay Productions presented significantly improved graphics and more fluid animations compared to its predecessor, which utilized live-action video. This adaptation was critical in bringing the game to a larger audience with the more accessible and increasingly popular CD-ROM format. Notably, the game is remembered for its engaging narrative and was one of the first to pioneer the use of full-motion video sequences in interactive entertainment, pushing the boundaries of traditional video game storytelling during its release era.
