Description

"Ken Griffey Jr.'s Winning Run" is a baseball video game that was developed by Rare and released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1996. Named after the famed Major League Baseball player Ken Griffey Jr., the game is known for its realistic baseball experience and is the second installment in the Ken Griffey Jr. video game series. Players can participate in exhibition matches or battle their way through a full season, chasing the ultimate prize of the World Series. The game stood apart for its time due to its detailed graphics and animations, genuinely capturing the feel of a baseball stadium with accurately rendered ballparks and fluid player movements.

The game leverages Mode 7 graphics, a distinctive feature of the SNES platform, to create an immersive 3D effect on the field, enhancing both pitching and batting perspectives. Notably, "Ken Griffey Jr.'s Winning Run" was one of the final projects developed by Rare for the SNES, as they subsequently shifted focus to the upcoming Nintendo 64 platform. The game’s development benefitted significantly from Griffey Jr.'s direct input, aiming to create an authentic baseball simulation that appealed both to casual fans and die-hard baseball aficionados. The inclusion of all MLB teams, although without real player names except for Griffey Jr. due to licensing limitations, also added to the realistic appeal of stepping into the cleats of a professional baseball player.
