Description

"Icebreaker" is an intriguing action-puzzle video game that was released for the Panasonic 3DO console in 1995. Developed by Magnet Interactive Studios, the game provides a unique and challenging experience as players navigate through various levels with the goal of eliminating all pyramids by changing their color to match an adjacent exploding pyramid. Players control a small triangular character, which moves across a grid filled with pyramids of different colors and properties. The gameplay involves strategic movements and careful planning to manage the pyramids, which react differently depending on their color and the approach taken by the player.

The game is noted for its distinctive gameplay mechanics and quirky visual style, which set it apart from other puzzle games of its time. "Icebreaker" includes over 150 levels, each presenting new challenges and requiring different strategies to complete. Its use in the relatively obscure Panasonic 3DO platform limited its exposure, but it nonetheless gained a cult following due to its original gameplay and the strategic depth it offered. The game also featured a level editor, allowing players to create their own levels and challenge others, which added to its replay value. The title was notable for its early use of full-motion video cutscenes to enhance the storytelling aspect, imbuing the puzzle gameplay with a lighter narrative element.
