Description

"Elevator Action Returns," released for the Sega Saturn in 1997, is a vibrant and action-packed sequel to the original arcade hit "Elevator Action." Developed by Taito, this side-scrolling platform game elevates the excitement with improved graphics, more complex levels, and a richer storyline. Players choose from one of three special agents: Kart Bradfield, Edie Burret, or Jad the Taff, each with their own unique weapons and abilities. The game's mission is to infiltrate various enemy-packed buildings, gather secret documents, and then safely escape. The gameplay includes navigating elevators, escalators, and buildings filled with traps and enemies, making for an exhilarating and strategic arcade experience.

The game also innovated with its detailed environments and destructible elements, something that was relatively advanced for its time in side-scrolling shooter games. Each of the six stages presents a unique setting, ranging from skyscrapers to underground facilities, all rendered with vibrant 2D graphics. "Elevator Action Returns" is also notable for its incorporation of a health bar for characters, a departure from the one-hit deaths of its predecessor, allowing for a more forgiving yet still challenging gameplay. Strategic use of the environment, such as shooting lights to create darkness, adds a layer of tactical depth. The Sega Saturn version also boasts additional features like a score attack mode, enhancing replayability. As a cult classic, "Elevator Action Returns" enjoys a special place in the heart of fans and is lauded for its engaging gameplay and nostalgic appeal.
