Description

"Dudes with Attitude" is a puzzle video game developed for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and was released in 1990. Designed by Michael Crick, the game features a unique gameplay premise where players take control of colorful characters known as the "Dudes." The main objective is to navigate these Dudes across a playing field filled with various obstacles to collect treasures. The playing field is viewed from a top-down perspective, and each level is comprised of different layouts with gems and obstructions. Players must strategically manipulate the Dudes' trajectories, as they continuously bounce back and forth across the board, by changing their colors to match the treasures they are intended to collect, thus clearing the path and solving the puzzle.

"Dudes with Attitude" was developed by American Video Entertainment, a company known for creating unlicensed games for the NES platform. This game, alongside its sort-of sequel "Trolls on Treasure Island," used the same game engine, intriguingly tying it to the later “troll doll” craze, although the games themselves did not feature Trolls. Unique for its time, "Dudes with Attitude" incorporated a blend of action and puzzle-solving elements with a colorful visual style. Its reception was mixed, with some praising its innovative approach to the puzzle genre, while others found the gameplay repetitive. Nonetheless, it stands out in the NES library for its distinctive mechanics and vibrant aesthetic.
