Description

"D" is a psychological horror adventure game developed and published by WARP, first released for the Sega Saturn in 1995. The game follows the story of Laura Harris, a young woman who investigates a hospital after her father goes on a murderous rampage within its walls and takes several hostages. Over the course of the game, players navigate through various puzzles and horror-themed environments in a quest to uncover the dark secrets behind her father's actions and the eerie hospital. The gameplay is unique in that it unfolds in real-time over the course of three hours, and players must complete the game within this timeframe without any saves or pauses, adding an intense sense of urgency and immersion.

"D" broke new ground in video game storytelling and mechanics upon its release, leveraging full-motion video (FMV) and pre-rendered 3D graphics that were cutting-edge at the time. The game's strictly enforced real-time play limit was a novel feature that significantly influenced player experience, emphasizing the harrowing, real-time progression of the game's narrative. Despite its relatively short gameplay length, "D" achieved cult status and is often remembered for its atmospheric buildup and psychological horror elements that pioneered trends in the horror gaming genre. Its success led to a couple of sequels, expanding its unsettling narrative universe and solidifying its place in the annals of classic horror video games.
