Release Date:
"Combat Two" was an intended sequel to the popular Atari 2600 game "Combat," and was designed to bring multiplayer tank combat to the next level with enhanced features and new gameplay elements. Set in a variety of terrains, players would control tanks navigating through mazes, firing at each other to score points, similar to its predecessor. Unlike its predecessor, "Combat Two" was designed to offer different environments, such as forests and fortresses, and introduce barriers that could be destroyed and regenerative wall segments, adding more dynamic strategy and complexity to the game.
However, "Combat Two" was never commercially released during the prime years of the Atari 2600. Initially developed in the early 1980s, the game fell victim to the video game crash of 1983, and its planned release was shelved as Atari focused on restructuring and responding to the changing market. The game remained largely forgotten until it resurfaced years later in prototype form. It was eventually released in limited quantities through the Atari Flashback console and some collector’s editions, allowing gaming historians and classic video game enthusiasts a glimpse into what could have been a notable successor in the Atari lineup.
