Description

"Clue" for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) is a digital adaptation of the classic board game originally known as "Cluedo," developed by Sculptured Software and released in 1992. In this murder mystery game, players must solve the murder of Mr. Boddy by determining the killer, the murder weapon, and the location within the sprawling mansion where the crime occurred. Gameplay is faithful to its board game origin, featuring the familiar characters such as Miss Scarlett, Colonel Mustard, and Mrs. Peacock, each with their own unique suspect abilities. Players move from room to room, gathering clues and making accusations to narrow down the possibilities and solve the mystery before their opponents do.

The transition from board game to video game allowed for some unique additions, including various thematic animated sequences that bring the characters and the mansion's rooms to life, enhancing the storytelling and immersion. Players could choose to play against computer-controlled opponents or with friends, making "Clue" both a challenging single-player experience and a fun, social multiplayer game. Unique to the SNES version was the ability to customize the AI's difficulty, adapting the challenge to the player's skill level, which was not a feature typically seen in many board game adaptations of the period. Additionally, this console version helped to popularize the murder mystery genre in video gaming, providing an engaging way for players to practice deductive reasoning and strategy within a digital format.
