Description

"Choplifter III" is a side-scrolling action/arcade game developed by Beam Software and released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1994. In this game, players assume the role of a rescue pilot who must save hostages trapped in enemy territories. The game consists of various missions where the player must navigate their helicopter through treacherous landscapes, evade or combat enemy forces with limited ammunition, and carefully land to pick up the hostages. After collecting the hostages, the player must safely return them to the home base. The challenge escalates with each level as enemies become more aggressive and the terrain more difficult to navigate.

Significantly, "Choplifter III" for the SNES is part of a series that originated with the original "Choplifter" game designed by Dan Gorlin and first released on the Apple II computer in 1982. The series is recognized for blending shooting and rescue elements, setting it apart from pure combat or strategy games of the time. "Choplifter III" enhances this legacy with improved graphics and more complex level designs compared to its predecessors. It also adds new features such as different weapons and power-ups, providing more depth and strategy to the classic formula. Additionally, the helicopter in this edition could face forward or backward, shifting the strategy dynamically, and players had to manage fuel levels, adding an element of resource management. This installment remained a popular SNES title, largely because of its challenging gameplay and rewarding rescue missions.
