Description

"40 Winks" is a platformer video game released for the Sony PlayStation 1 in 1999, developed by Eurocom and published by GT Interactive. Set in a vibrantly whimsical world, the game revolves around two dream-traveling children, Ruff and Tumble, who embark on an adventure to rescue the titular 40 Winks from a nefarious old man named Nitekap. Winks, in this context, are small, creature-like beings responsible for producing the peaceful and pleasant dreams of sleeping individuals. Nitekap, intent on turning all dreams into nightmares, captures the Winks, leading our heroes through various dreamscapes to save them and restore peace to the dream world.

Gameplay in "40 Winks" combines classical platforming elements with the unique twist of allowing players to transform into different creatures, each with their own special abilities. These transformations include becoming a superhero, a monster, and even a dragon, offering different gameplay mechanics and strategies for navigating levels. The game is structured through six distinct dream worlds, each ending with a boss fight. Notably, "40 Winks" also included a cooperative two-player mode, adding an additional layer of fun and strategy as players could team up to tackle challenges together. The game, though initially overshadowed by other heavyweight titles on the platform, has gained a cult following over the years for its creative design and engaging gameplay. It was later poised for a revival on the Nintendo 64, but the port was ultimately never released, leaving its PlayStation version as the primary legacy of the title.
